Occupational Therapy interventions aimed at children and adolescents with overweight and obesity. A scope review

Abstract
Childhood and adolescent obesity is considered an epidemic with multiple consequences impacting both individuals and public health. The main objective of this research is to analyze existing publications on Occupational Therapy interventions in the field of child and adolescent overweight and obesity. A scoping review was conducted using PRISMA-ScR guidelines in conjunction with JBI guidelines. A total of 7 articles were included, with data synthesized in tables and graphs to identify main characteristics and interventions, such as all being in English, with 2 being open access and 5 by subscription. It is evident that Occupations/Activities and Education/Training are the most used intervention types, all considering the school, community, and family environments as fundamental aspects. There is a low number of articles on this topic, mostly with limited access and nearly 43% being literature reviews. Basic guidelines for Occupational Therapy interventions in childhood obesity are identified, promoting changes in routines and habits through meaningful activities to encourage a healthy lifestyle and positively influence intervention programs.
